Ground source heat pump Sunderland

University flagship sports and social centre with ground source heating in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear

thumb ground source heat pump Sunderland drilling boreholes commercial ground source heat pump building sunderlandCityspace is Sunderland University's flagship sports and social facility and it is heated by a ground source heat pump.  The development is on Chester Road Sunderland and has won a number of awards.  The ground source heat pump has been installed by Geowarmth.

In common with a number of areas in the North East the geology of the site is characterised by Permian Magnesian Limestone.  Geowarmth undertook a thermal response test on the site to accurately measure the ground conductivity.  The thermal conductivity was good due to advection from ground water.

Geowarmth used the results of the thermal response test to design a borefield array to meet the heating load profile of the new Sunderland University building.  This design process matched the ground conductivity results with the heating load profile to be net by the heat pump.

The system takes heat from the boreholes and pumps it to the Dimplex heat pump installed in an upstairs plant room.  From there the heat is transferred via the heat exchangers in the heat pump to the building's heating distribuuton system.

Schools and Universities throughout the North of England are enjoying the benefits of a heat pump system installed by Geowarmth.
