Heat Pump & EV Charger Installation at the General Manager’s Newcastle Home

Client: Graham, General Manager at Geowarmth
Location: Newcastle upon Tyne
Project Type: 3-Bed 1930s Residential Retrofit – Air Source Heat Pump & EV Charger
Annual Heating Cost Saving: £492/year saving
Overview: Leading by Example at Home
At Geowarmth Heat Pumps Limited, sustainable living isn’t just something we recommend — it’s something we believe in and live by. That’s why when Graham, our General Manager, decided it was time to upgrade the heating system in his 1930s three-bedroom home in Newcastle upon Tyne, he chose a low-carbon solution that reflects our company’s core values.
By replacing his traditional gas boiler with a cutting-edge NIBE S2125 air source heat pump and installing a GivEnergy EV charger, Graham demonstrated first-hand that renewable home heating is not only possible — it’s practical, efficient, and cost-saving.
“Having worked across the heating industry — from heat pump and boiler manufacturers to heating installers — I’ve seen the industry from every angle. That experience made it clear to me that switching to a heat pump was the smartest move for long-term comfort, efficiency, and sustainability.”
– Graham, General Manager at Geowarmth

The Solution: A Smart, Sustainable Retrofit
To future-proof his home and maximise energy efficiency, Graham undertook a comprehensive renewable retrofit that included:
✅ Air Source Heat Pump Installation
A NIBE S2125 was selected — often referred to as the Rolls-Royce of heat pumps. This Swedish-made system is known for its ultra-quiet operation, exceptional build quality, and use of natural R290 refrigerant — an environmentally friendly choice that delivers outstanding performance.
✅ Hot Water System Upgrade
The outdated Worcester gas boiler and cylinder were removed from the bathroom. In their place, a NIBE 200L Megacoil cylinder was installed in a newly built utility space in the garage. This clever redesign not only improved system performance but also freed up valuable indoor space.
✅ Energy-Efficient Heating Design
Designed with precision, the system operates at a maximum flow temperature of just 38°C during the coldest months. Indoors, temperatures are maintained at a consistent 20°C by day and reduced to 18°C overnight, delivering optimal comfort while minimising energy use.
✅ Smart Remote Control with MyUplink
Through the MyUplink app, Graham can monitor and control the system from anywhere. Geowarmth and NIBE can also access diagnostic data remotely, ensuring fast, effective support whenever needed.
✅ Electric Vehicle (EV) Charger Installation
To complete the low-carbon transformation, a GivEnergy EV charger was installed. This enables cost-effective off-peak charging, integrating seamlessly with the home’s renewable setup.

Why This Approach Works
As a renewable energy professional, Graham wanted to walk the talk. His decision to invest in a high-performance heat pump and EV charging system shows homeowners that sustainable living is achievable today, not just a dream for tomorrow.
Key Benefits at a Glance:
✅ Smart, Future-Ready Living:
From remote control to EV integration, the setup is designed for convenience, control, and longevity.
✅ Exceptional Efficiency:
Over 12 months, the system delivered 10,848kWh of heat using just 2455kWh of electricity — a Seasonal Coefficient of Performance (SCOP) of 4.4.
✅ Lower Heating Bills:
Annual heating costs fell to just £638, compared to £1,130 with the old gas boiler. The total saving of £492 also reflects the removal of the gas meter standing charge, further reducing fixed energy costs.
✅ Whisper-Quiet Operation:
Certified by Quiet Mark, the system runs so quietly it’s perfect for residential areas.
✅ Sustainable Year-Round Comfort:
Consistent warmth, reduced carbon emissions, and zero reliance on fossil fuels.

Customer Outcome
As both the homeowner and the installer, Graham is living proof that air source heat pumps and EV chargers are not just for early adopters — they’re for anyone who wants to reduce their carbon footprint, save on bills, and enjoy reliable comfort all year round.
This retrofit is a shining example of how professional design, premium products, and expert installation can completely transform the way we heat and power our homes — for the better.
