Ground source heat pump in Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear

Commercial gshp hospital 60kW pic2 Commercial-gshp-hospital-60kW-pic1A new medical centre in Newcastle upon Tyne in Tyne and Wear is heated by a Nibe heat pump installed by Geowarmth and connected to a series of boreholes underneath the car park.  The Nibe Fighter heat pump has a thermal output of around 60kW and is providing heat to the underfloor heating system throughout the building.

The sytem extracts heat from the 14 boreholes, each drilled to a depth of 100 metres.  The water and antifreeze mixture in the ground loop is pumped using a Grundfos twin headed pump.

The heat pump has twin compressors for a two stage operation.  A 500 litre buffer tank is installed adjacent to the heat pump.  This buffer tank has a coil connected to a gas boiler for back up if required.

This is one of a number of heat pump installations North East based Geowarmth has undertaken in medical centres and hospitals in Cumbria, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Teeside and Yorkshire.
